Causes of Heartburn: What Foods Cause Indigestion Symptoms?

Post Page Rank

In the last two posts, I listed some of the symptoms that are caused by indigestion, heartburn, and acid reflux. During this post, I want to give you a list of foods that you should avoid. Not all these will apply to everyone, so the best advice would be to try them out for yourself one at a time and see how your body reacts to them. Some people can handle these potential causes of heartburn without any symptoms, but on the other hand, some people can just think about these foods and feel the pain.

I recommend keeping notes of which foods you have eaten and when you have heartburn symptoms. You will begin to see a pattern of a certain food, or a certain ingredient that is causing you indigestion and heartburn pains. Once you’ve collected this information and can go back to review it, you will also be able to make yourself a personalized list of foods that you should avoid. Likewise, you may also find foods that do not appear here on my list but can affect you negatively and cause indigestion or heartburn.

One other point to mention here, is that there are some occasions where you will want to eat these foods. Or perhaps something listed here is an absolute favorite of yours and you just can’t live without it. In that case, I would recommend that you look over my list of foods that can prevent heartburn and eat something from that list later to help balance the acid levels in your stomach. You can find that list inside my special free report, and you’ll get it when you sign up via the form on the top right of the page.

Foods to Avoid:

1. citrus (fruits, juices, etc.)
2. spicy foods
3. caffeine (coffee, soda, etc.)
4. fatty and fried foods
5. garlic, onions
6. sugar
7. chocolate
8. tomato products (chili, sauces, salsa, etc.)
9. alcohol
10. breads

Avoiding the foods on this list will help you to prevent the causes of indigestion and heartburn. As I said before, there are foods that you might love on this list, and while I won’t try to stop you from eating something that you love, I will warn you to be prepared for the effects of that food later. Get my free report now, and I’ll tell you a few more foods that I love and have to battle the side-effects of later on.

I love my coffee! But I’ve cut way back on it because at times it does give my stomach a bit of trouble. I now usually have half decaf and half caffeine for my morning cup and decaf the rest of the day. This has helped a lot.

  8. admin says:

I like coffee and hot chocolate, but I’ve been avoiding both except on certain occasions. Caffeine can have a lot of negative side effects other than just indigestion, so that’s probably better for me anyways! Thanks for visiting!

My partner eats all those foods and wonders why he has indigestion problems. I will print this out for him and maybe he will start to cut back on some of these foods.

Great list of things to avoid in order to prevent heartburn and indigestion. I have a brother who struggles with this in a big way, so I will have to point him here so he can learn what foods to keep out of his diet.

The list of foods to avoid is a good checklist to check for “trigger”. As for me, I think I got mild reflux problem and giving up fried foods may be a bit of a problem for me.
